Recordings of Lunar Prospector!

WB5LUA

Main carrier (2273.000 Mhz +/- doppler) Approx (113k)

Subcarrier (2273.000 Mhz + 1.024 Mhz +/- doppler) (Aprox 87k)

Both of these recording were made by WB5LUA while Lunar Prospector was operating on the OMNI antenna. These signals were recorded with a 5 meter dish and a 0.5 db nf preamp with a RHCP feedhorn. It is anticipated that signals will be approx. 6 to 7 db stonger when the spacecraft is switched over to the medium gain antenna. This should occur on 01-15-98. See the Mission Status Reports on the previous page for updates on the spacecraft operating parameters.

Main carrier (2273.000 Mhz +/- doppler) Approx (79k)

This recording was made with an 11 foot homebrew dish using a juice can feed. The preamp is a three stage wideband NE-645 bipolar design into a diode mixer. The noise figure is probably somewhat greater than 3 db at this frequency.

The high noise figure of this preamp plus the linear feedhorn (NOT circularly polarized) accounts for the lower SNR on this recording. It is included to show what can be done with less than state of the art equipment! Lunar Prospector was operating on the OMNI antenna when this recording was done.
