Real Time Lunar Prospector Data

On this page an attempt will be made to display data in ways that the public (and a lot of scientists!) have never seen before, but this is only part of the innovation. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this new technology is that YOU will see this data in 'real-time', only about 2 seconds after Mission Control!

Select the type of data you are interested in from the list below and you will be connected directly to the Lunar Prospector in orbit around the moon!

NOTE: If the spacecraft is currently behind the moon or not within range of a tracking station you will NOT get current data! (Same as NASA!)

Location/Position provides up to the minute data of where Prospector is above the lunar surface !

^^^ Note: Once you have the map loaded and tracking begins you should be able to disconnect and continue tracking. However, it will eventually stop and you will have to reconnect for an update. This usually happens when the spacecraft goes from one side of the moon to the other...

Science Data contains a link to the control panel where you can view live data from Prospector's four instruments. If you're confused about what it all means, you can check out an overview of each of the four instruments explaining how they work as well as a general overview of how the craft collects and transmits data.

Spacecraft Health lets you know how the craft is doing in five areas: Antenna, Battery, Solar Panels, Fuel Tank, and Thrusters.

Moon VRML and Spacecraft VRML are interactive views of Prospector and the Moon respectively.
